Ariel Kelman understands that modern marketing leadership isn’t just about managing departments—it’s about orchestrating every moment of the customer experience. As President and Chief Marketing Officer at Salesforce, Kelman believes that a CMO’s job extends far beyond traditional channels. Whether it’s a call center conversation or an AI-powered product suggestion, marketing should be present at every touchpoint. “If someone talks to an agent and says, ‘My sweater's too small,’ we should not only send the right size—but also recommend a matching hat,” Kelman says. That logic, powered by Salesforce’s segmentation tools, underscores his conviction: every interaction is an opportunity to build connection and drive value.

Kelman was born in California and earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California, Berkeley. His marketing career spans the most influential names in enterprise technology. After first joining Salesforce in 2005, he left in 2011 to lead marketing at Amazon Web Services, where he helped scale the team from just a few dozen people into a global operation. He later served as CMO at Oracle before returning to Salesforce in 2023. In his current role, Kelman leads global marketing strategy, drives demand generation, and builds the company’s brand through a uniquely technical, customer-focused lens.

His approach also reflects a broader belief in pairing hard data with human insight. At AWS, when struggling to evaluate the effectiveness of an executive program, Kelman was told by then-CEO Andy Jassy, “Have you talked to any of the customers?” That advice led him to call 20 participants—resulting in some of the clearest and most actionable feedback the team had received. “This part of what you’re doing is super impactful… this part, irrelevant,” one customer told him. For Kelman, numbers matter—but so does picking up the phone.
