T-Mobile has announced that Chief Operating Officer Srini Gopalan will succeed Mike Sievert as Chief Executive Officer. Sievert, who has led the company since 2020, will move into the newly created role of Vice Chairman, continuing to serve on the Board and advising on long-term strategy, innovation, talent development, and external relations.
Under Sievert’s leadership, T-Mobile added tens of millions of customers, expanded into broadband, and grew its market capitalization by more than $200 billion, becoming the most valuable telecommunications company. Gopalan joined T-Mobile as COO through a multi-year succession process and has since helped drive acquisitions, expand 5G and fiber access, and lead the company’s Technology, Consumer, and Business groups. Gopalan previously held leadership roles at Deutsche Telekom, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, and Capital One
Sievert said, “Srini is ready to lead. He is highly skilled, passionate and incredibly knowledgeable, and above all he is obsessed with taking our employee and customer experience to the next level. I have full trust and confidence in his vision for T-Mobile, and the Un-carrier’s ability to innovate to an even greater extent under his leadership.”
Gopalan expressed gratitude, stating, “I am honored and grateful for the trust Mike and the Board have placed in me, and for the opportunity to lead T-Mobile’s next chapter.” Tim Höttges, CEO of Deutsche Telekom, added, “He has the determination, expertise, passion, and empathy to be a fantastic CEO.”
