As Founder and Chief Executive Officer of H2O.ai, Sri Ambati has built one of the most widely adopted AI platforms in the world, empowering more than 20,000 organizations, including over half of the Fortune 500. His vision to democratize AI is rooted in moments that revealed technology’s life-saving potential: his mother’s breast cancer diagnosis sparked a commitment to use mathematics against disease, and during the Delta wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. He spearheaded o2forindia.org, supplying oxygen concentrators to over 200 public health organizations in underserved regions of India. Under his leadership, H2O.ai has become a hub for open-source generative AI, foundation models, and AI for Good initiatives that address pressing societal and environmental challenges.

Born in India, Ambati earned a master’s degree in mathematics and computer science from the University of Memphis. He expanded his academic exploration through sabbaticals in Theoretical Neuroscience at Stanford University and the University of California, Berkeley—experiences that honed his understanding of both human and machine systems. Before launching H2O.ai in 2012, he co-founded big data analytics company Platfora, later acquired by Workday, and served as director of engineering at DataStax and Azul Systems. At H2O.ai, he leads product strategy and innovation, overseeing platforms such as Enterprise h2oGPTe, H2O Document AI, and H2O Driverless AI autoML, while fostering a global community through initiatives like free GenAI Masterclasses and AI meetups worldwide.

For Ambati, advancing AI means ensuring it remains equitable, transparent, and accessible. His AI for Good program has supported projects ranging from predicting natural disaster risks to protecting endangered species, reinforcing his belief that “the responsible and equitable use of AI has the potential to tackle some of the most pressing challenges of our time.” Looking ahead, he aims to expand domain-specific GPT development, educate AI decision-makers on model validation, and create powerful foundation models that are cost-effective even for developers without high-end infrastructure. His career stands as proof that technology, when driven by purpose, can serve as a powerful force for human progress.
