For Andréa Mallard, making a brand unforgettable starts with taking bold creative swings. As Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at Pinterest, she oversees global brand, growth, performance, experiential, content, communications, product marketing, design, and UX teams—pushing the company to move decisively and avoid the slow erosion that comes from playing it too safe. Known for her candid Monday morning emails that mix personal stories, product insights, and outside inspirations, Mallard keeps the mission tangible for employees while encouraging them to think bigger and braver.
Born and raised in Canada, Mallard’s creativity emerged early, inventing elaborate imaginary worlds to pass time in cold hockey arenas during her brother’s games. She earned a bachelor’s degree in international politics and English literature from Queen’s University, followed by a master’s degree in global media from the London School of Economics, where she focused on how to build and lead modern media companies. Before joining Pinterest in 2018, she served as chief marketing officer at Athleta, driving marketing, communications, digital, and ecommerce, and at Omada Health, where she fueled growth through demand generation and sales enablement. Her experience spans corporate storytelling, brand strategy, and product engagement, and she currently lends her expertise as a board member for Kajabi, Hydrow, and TwentyFirstCenturyBrands.
Mallard leads with transparency, humor, and a high bar for excellence. She shares openly when she gets things wrong, reminding her team that leadership is not a measure of titles but of designing a life worth living. She challenges those aspiring to C-suite roles to weigh the trade-offs of advancement, noting that personal fulfillment can matter more than climbing higher. Humor, she believes, is strategic—boosting morale and creativity. Over time, she has learned to embrace “good enough” when perfection risks slowing progress, understanding that momentum often matters more than flawlessness. For Mallard, success is about creating an environment where emotional health, creativity, and tangible business results align, empowering teams to take the big swings that keep a company thriving.
