Yvonne McGill is making history as the first woman to become Chief Financial Officer at Dell Technologies. According to the tech giant, she will assume her position in the C-suite in August of 2023. For many, this promotion has been a long time coming.

With more than 25 years at Dell, McGill currently serves as Corporate Controller, in which she is responsible for accounting, tax, treasury, and investor relations. She first joined the company in 1997 — alongside her spouse, Bryan McGill, who is currently employed by the firm — as finance manager. Since then, she has held various high-ranking roles, including Chief Financial Officer Senior Vice President of the Infrastructure Solutions Group, and Chief Accounting Officer. She was also Head of Finance for the company’s Asia-Pacific, Japan, and China region. In all of her previous positions, McGill was responsible for the strategy and overall performance of each group’s finance organization.

Notably, McGill is poised to take Dell's top finance position during a time when the percentage of women CFOs at major organizations has hit an all-time high. According to an analysis of more than 650 C-suite executives by Crist Kolder Associates, last year women made up 16.3% of CFOs at Fortune 500 and S&P 500 companies. This marks a substantial 10% increase from 2004, when the firm began tracking the data.

McGill continues to wear more than one hat at Dell. In addition to her role as Corporate Controller, she is a member of Dell Technologies’ Disclosure Review Committee and an executive sponsor of Dell Technologies’ Finance Leadership Program. She is also a founding and current board member for the Dell women’s employee resource group, Women in Search of Excellence (W.I.S.E.).

Prior to Dell, McGill worked at ManTech International Corporation and Price Waterhouse. Additionally, she has participated in various community activities, such as serving on the board of Susan G. KIomen of Greater Central and East; and serving on the Round Rock Independent School District Partners in Education Foundation Board.

McGill, who holds a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Virginia Tech, joined the Applied Materials board of directors in 2019.
