Microsoft AI (MAI) has appointed Andréa Mallard as its new Chief Marketing Officer, strengthening its leadership team as the company advances its artificial intelligence strategy. Mallard, who previously served as global CMO at Pinterest for seven years, confirmed her new role in a LinkedIn post after leaving the social media company.
MAI, Microsoft’s dedicated AI research lab established in 2024, operates under the leadership of CEO Mustafa Suleyman and focuses on developing and scaling AI tools across Microsoft’s ecosystem. In late 2025, the unit introduced new branding and a redesigned website highlighting products such as Copilot, Bing, Edge, and GroupMe.
Commenting on her appointment, Mallard said, “Just under two weeks ago, I began my new role as CMO for Microsoft AI. AI is already the most consequential technological shift of my lifetime.” She added that she joined MAI to help build technology that earns public trust while serving long-term human potential.
During her tenure at Pinterest, Mallard built the company’s marketing organization, guided the brand through its 2019 IPO and the pandemic, and led initiatives that expanded its reach to 600 million monthly users. Her move comes as competition for senior marketing talent intensifies across the AI sector, with several technology companies recently making high-profile leadership hires.
