Cameron Adams, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer of Canva, never imagined a career in design. Initially pursuing law and science, his path to becoming one of the leading figures in tech entrepreneurship was shaped by unexpected detours—from founding a web design agency to his role at Google. It wasn’t until a pivotal conversation with Melanie Perkins, Canva’s CEO, that the vision for the now global design platform began to form. Canva’s mission—to democratize design—was born out of a frustration that a more accessible design tool was missing from the market. From this pain point, Canva evolved into a platform where anyone, anywhere can create high-quality designs, and in the process, Adams discovered his passion for helping others solve real-world problems through intuitive technology.
Born and raised in Australia, Adams earned a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Melbourne in 2001. Early in his career, he launched a design agency that worked with global giants such as Atlassian and TEDx. A four-year stint at Google saw him collaborating with the creators of Google Maps on the groundbreaking Google Wave project. In 2011, Adams co-founded an email startup, but his career trajectory shifted dramatically upon joining Melanie Perkins and Cliff Obrecht to co-found Canva. At the platform’s helm, he oversees the design and development of its apps, contributing to exponential growth—scaling from 1.5 million users to over 7 million within a year.
Beyond his work at Canva, Adams is a thought leader in web design, authoring five books and sharing insights at major tech events like SXSW and London Tech Week. His influence extends beyond innovation, emphasizing the importance of user-friendly design and fostering inclusivity in the tech space. Adams continues to push the boundaries of design and innovation, shaping a future where technology empowers creativity on a global scale.
