Edwards Lifesciences is turning to a healthcare finance executive with public-company CFO and investment banking experience as it completes a planned leadership transition. The medical technology firm appointed Theodora “Doretta” Mistras as Corporate Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, effective at the end of the month. Mistras succeeds Scott Ullem, who announced his planned transition in October and will remain a strategic advisor during the change.

Mistras joins Edwards from Viatris, where she served as chief financial officer and led the company’s global finance organization, including financial planning, reporting, and operational finance. Before Viatris, she was a managing director in healthcare investment banking at Citigroup Global Markets and held senior leadership roles in healthcare investment banking at Goldman Sachs, advising corporate boards and executive teams on corporate finance, strategy, and investor relations.

CEO Bernard Zovighian said Mistras’ broad experience will be “instrumental” as Edwards executes its strategy and continues investing in innovation. At Edwards, Mistras will oversee the company’s finance organization as it pursues long-term value for patients, customers, shareholders, and the broader healthcare ecosystem. Ullem, who has served as CFO since 2014, will remain with the company as a strategic advisor in the months ahead.
