In 2012, driven by a visionary belief in the future of data, Benoit Dageville co-founded Snowflake with Thierry Cruanes not to chase market trends, but to redefine the way data would transform the world. Today, he leads the company’s technical strategy and product vision, guiding teams of engineers, designers, and product managers toward making data not just accessible, but truly actionable for global enterprises. Under his leadership, Snowflake has grown from a disruptive startup into a public company with a market cap exceeding $50 billion and a customer base that includes thousands of organizations worldwide.

Dageville’s journey started in France, where he earned a Ph.D. in computer science from Université de Paris VI, specializing in parallel database systems. Early in his career, he worked at Bull Information Systems, shaping the architecture of parallel computing systems and leading key performance benchmarks. His next chapter at Oracle spanned over a decade, where he became a lead architect focused on SQL manageability and parallel execution in Oracle RAC. There, he pioneered features like real-time SQL monitoring and automatic SQL tuning—tools that laid the groundwork for what Snowflake would later deliver at cloud scale.

Dageville likens founding a company to free diving—a personal passion of his—where remaining calm under pressure can mean the difference between success and failure. Panic, he believes, is the enemy of good decisions, whether underwater or in the boardroom. This philosophy has guided Snowflake through competitive storms and critical product decisions. Rather than follow the aggressive leadership styles common in Silicon Valley, Dageville listens first, trusting that strong ideas emerge from respectful, reasoned collaboration. As AI drives rapid transformation across industries, he advises today’s founders to remain focused, uphold their principles, and, most importantly, stay calm.
