Sherwin-Williams, a global leader in the paint and coatings industry, announced the appointment of Heidi Petz as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective January 1, 2024. The decision was made public on October 10, 2023, marking a significant transition for the company that has been a cornerstone in the industry for 157 years.

Petz, previously the Chief Operating Officer and President of Sherwin-Williams, stepped into the role of CEO, succeeding John G. Morikis, who has held the position of Chairman and CEO. Morikis expressed confidence in Petz, saying "Heidi has been an invaluable member of my leadership team, demonstrating a record of driving growth and operational excellence that has generated increased value for our customers, shareholders and employees.”

In her new role, Petz will not only take on the responsibilities of CEO but will also continue to serve as President, overseeing all of Sherwin-Williams' operating segments, including the Paint Stores Group, the Performance Coatings Group, and the Consumer Brands Group. Additionally, she will manage the Global Supply Chain organization, Procurement, and the Enterprise Selling function.

Petz's journey with Sherwin-Williams began in 2017 when the company acquired The Valspar Corporation. Prior to becoming President and Chief Operating Officer, she served as President of The Americas Group and the Consumer Brands Group, steering these global businesses through challenging periods. Before joining the company, Petz held leadership roles at Newell Rubbermaid, Target Corporation, and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Beyond her corporate responsibilities, Petz is actively engaged in board positions, serving on the Board of Directors of Ulta Beauty, Inc. in Chicago, Illinois, and the University Hospitals Health System in Cleveland, Ohio. She is also a member of the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies Policy Advisory Board.

Sherwin-Williams, founded in 1866, boasts a workforce of 64,000 employees and holds a prominent position as one of Greater Cleveland's largest companies. In 2023, the company secured the 178th spot on the Fortune 500 list, a testament to its enduring success.
