Intel is tightening the link between its long-term research and its commercial business priorities by moving its top technical advisor into a permanent leadership role. The company has announced the appointment of Pushkar Ranade as Chief Technology Officer, a position he previously held in an interim capacity. According to an official company announcement, Ranade is tasked with steering the silicon giant’s technology strategy through a period of intense architectural shifts. By formalizing this role, the company aims to stabilize its innovation agenda as it races to reclaim its lead in the global semiconductor landscape.
Ranade has a history of navigating the intersection of corporate operations and complex engineering within the firm. He has functioned as a central figure in the executive suite, serving as chief of staff to the CEO. In that capacity, he acted as a primary bridge between technical R&D and the office of the chief executive, ensuring that capital investments aligned with engineering realities. Intel noted that his dual experience in operational discipline and technical strategy was key to his transition from the interim post to the permanent CTO office.
In his new mandate, Ranade will lead special technology projects and drive development in "critical emerging areas, including quantum computing, neuromorphic computing, photonics, and novel materials." He reports directly to CEO Lip-Bu Tan while maintaining his responsibilities as chief of staff. This dual-hatted structure is designed to ensure "strong alignment between Intel’s technology strategy and business priorities," according to the company. His leadership will be measured by the firm's ability to successfully move these high-stakes, deep-tech initiatives from the laboratory to high-volume manufacturing.
