State Street has appointed Mark Wightman as Executive Vice President and Head of Transformation. Wightman joins the Boston-based financial services firm after more than three decades across fintech, consulting, and market infrastructure roles. Announcing the move, he said, “After over three decades sitting in the ‘middle’ of the financial market’s ecosystem in fintech and consulting, I’ve moved in-house with one of the largest and most trusted firms to help drive transformation across the business.”

Wightman spent 11 years at EY, most recently serving as partner and international transformation lead for wealth and asset management, where he advised asset managers, owners, and servicers on technology-enabled operating model design and execution. In his new role, Wightman will lead strategic initiatives to streamline processes, apply emerging technologies, and support efficiency, cost discipline, and revenue growth.

State Street said he will have “oversight responsibility for the development, support, and execution of a unified, enterprise-wide NextGen transformation program with artificial intelligence (AI) as a key enabler.” The firm, which services approximately $51.7 trillion in assets under custody and administration, already applies AI across multiple areas. Its Global Advisors business uses large language models to review regulatory filings and classify companies for exchange-traded fund construction, while investment accounting teams deploy AI tools from partner FundGuard to automate reconciliations and pricing checks.
