Luis von Ahn is the Co-Founder and CEO of Duolingo, a platform that has revolutionized language learning for millions worldwide. Duolingo has grown to serve a larger user base than many traditional educational institutions combined, thanks to von Ahn’s mission to make education universally accessible. Co-founded in 2011 with Severin Hacker, Duolingo provides a free and engaging language learning experience that uses AI and gamification to keep users motivated. Von Ahn believes that education should not be reserved for the wealthy but should be available to all, a principle reflected in Duolingo’s model of providing free language education to anyone with an internet connection.

Born in Guatemala, von Ahn’s personal journey has deeply influenced his entrepreneurial vision. As an international student in the U.S., he experienced firsthand the challenges of accessing education. Before founding Duolingo, he co-invented reCAPTCHA, a technology acquired by Google, and pioneered the concept of human computation, which combines human input with technology to solve complex problems. This foundation of merging technology with crowdsourcing was pivotal in shaping Duolingo’s innovative approach to learning.
