J.K. Symancyk assumed the role of President and CEO of PetSmart in June 2018, bringing with him over 25 years of experience in the consumer retail industry. Recognized as a transformational leader, Symancyk has demonstrated prowess in enhancing organizational performance and fostering a positive team culture through talent development and leadership cultivation.

His journey in retail began as a seasonal associate at a Walmart distribution center, where he later transitioned to the home office. Over the years, Symancyk held various leadership positions at Sam’s Club and Walmart, including international roles focusing on merchandising, procurement, and sourcing.

In 2006, Symancyk joined Meijer, a supercenter chain in the Midwest, where he ascended to group vice president and eventually became president in 2012. Under his leadership, Meijer experienced substantial growth, marked by consecutive quarters of comp sales growth, increased market share, margin improvement, and enhanced profitability. In 2015, he assumed the role of president and CEO of Academy Sports + Outdoors, where he implemented a new strategy, emphasizing the expansion of proprietary brands and strengthening the leadership team. This strategic shift led to notable returns on growth and positioned the company for a successful IPO.

Since joining PetSmart, Symancyk has continued to drive transformation, propelling the leading pet retailer to increased market share, revenue growth, margin expansion, and improved cash flow generation. Moreover, he has prioritized associate engagement and diversity initiatives, furthering PetSmart's commitment to belonging, diversity, and inclusion. In addition to his role at PetSmart, he serves as Chairman of PetSmart Charities, a prominent funder of animal welfare initiatives in North America. He is also a member of the Retail Industry Leaders Board of Directors and the Bath & Body Works Board of Directors.

Symancyk holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, where he remains involved as a member of the Dean's Advisory Board for the Walton College of Business. Alongside his professional endeavors, Symancyk and his wife are dedicated pet parents to two dogs, Stella and Harper.
