Amazon Web Services (AWS) has reinforced its leadership team with the appointment of Raejeanne Skillern, former cloud services leader at Intel, as the global Chief Marketing Officer. The move is seen as a strategic step to enhance AWS's position in the competitive cloud services sector and underscores the company's commitment to diversity in its leadership ranks.

Skillern, an industry veteran with over 15 years of experience, has an extensive background in global technology and technology manufacturing. Before joining AWS, she served as the president of the Cloud, Enterprise, and Communications business at Flex Ltd., a role where she garnered success and industry recognition.

Her journey in the technology realm began in 2002 when she joined Intel as the director of enterprise server demand creation marketing. Over the years, Skillern ascended the executive ladder at Intel, ultimately becoming the vice president of Intel's Cloud Service Provider Business, where she managed Intel's business and products for cloud infrastructure deployments.

Notably, she led the team responsible for collaboration with major cloud providers such as AWS, Microsoft, and Google Cloud, ensuring the optimization of Intel's data center product portfolio.

Matt Garman, Senior Vice President of AWS Sales and Marketing, expressed confidence in Skillern's ability to significantly impact AWS. In a memo to employees, he stated, "We are excited to have her on board, and we are confident that her vast experience and expertise will significantly impact AWS."

Skillern, in a LinkedIn post, shared her enthusiasm about joining AWS as the Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. Her responsibilities in this new role includes playing a pivotal part in driving AWS's growth, fostering a customer-centric approach, and building a high-performing marketing team.

During her tenure at Intel, Skillern played a key role in marketing AWS's generative AI charge in 2023, showcasing her commitment to advancing technological innovations.

Observers in the industry view Skillern's appointment as a significant win for AWS, citing her leadership skills, industry experience, and passion for technology as valuable assets that will bolster AWS's competitive stance. This move also aligns with AWS's commitment to diversifying its leadership and follows a yearlong vacancy for the CMO position.
