Assaf Rappaport, CEO and Co-Founder of the cybersecurity giant Wiz, has demonstrated a forward-thinking approach by turning down a $23 billion acquisition offer from Alphabet, Google’s parent company. Rappaport’s decision to decline the buyout reflects his confidence in Wiz’s potential to dominate the cloud security sector. He believes that the market for cloud security is vast, potentially valuing Wiz at over $100 billion if the company remains committed to delivering significant value and innovation. This bold stance is bolstered by Rappaport’s conviction in Wiz’s growth trajectory, which he credits to the dedication of its 1,500-strong team and a product platform designed to simplify security operations for companies in an increasingly cloud-reliant world.
Rappaport’s journey to the helm of Wiz has been marked by a series of strategic moves. He Co-Founded Adallom, a successful Cloud Access Security Broker, which was later acquired by Microsoft in 2015. At Microsoft, he led the Cloud Security group and served as General Manager of the company’s Israeli R&D Center, overseeing 1,500 employees. Before Wiz, Rappaport also worked at McKinsey & Company, focusing on strategic projects in Israel and Australia, and served as a captain in the elite 8200 intelligence unit of the Israel Defense Forces. His academic background includes advanced degrees in computer science from the Technion and the Hebrew University, adding technical expertise to his management acumen.
Under Rappaport’s leadership, Wiz has grown rapidly, reaching $500 million in annual recurring revenue with plans to double this figure by 2025. This milestone is integral to the company's IPO strategy, a goal set for Wiz’s team after the Alphabet offer was declined. Rappaport emphasizes that Wiz’s success is not solely based on financial backing, having raised $1 billion at a $12 billion valuation with investors such as Andreessen Horowitz, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Thrive Capital. Wiz's future, Rappaport suggests, hinges on continuous innovation, particularly with initiatives like Wiz Code, which aims to bridge security and development in the cloud. By enhancing application and cloud security, Wiz is setting itself apart as a transformative force in the cybersecurity industry, driven by Rappaport’s commitment to long-term vision over short-term gains.
