Anthropic has appointed former Stripe CTO Rahul Patil as its new Chief Technical Officer. Patil assumed the role earlier this week, succeeding Co-Founder Sam McCandlish. As part of the leadership change, Anthropic is restructuring its core technical group to bring the product-engineering team closer to infrastructure and inference teams. Patil will oversee compute, infrastructure, inference, and other engineering operations, reporting to Anthropic president Daniela Amodei.
With more than 20 years of experience at companies including Stripe, Oracle, Amazon, and Microsoft, Patil brings extensive expertise in building and scaling enterprise infrastructure. Amodei highlighted his experience, stating, “Rahul brings a proven track record in building and scaling the kind of dependable infrastructure that businesses need. I couldn’t be more excited about what this means for strengthening Claude’s position as the leading intelligence platform for enterprises.”
The leadership changes come amid growing competition in AI infrastructure from firms like OpenAI and Meta, which have made significant investments in computing capacity. Anthropic’s own infrastructure has faced strain due to the popularity of Claude, prompting new usage limits for high-demand users. Patil expressed enthusiasm about his new role, saying, “I’m thrilled to join Anthropic at this pivotal moment in AI development. It feels like the most important work I could be doing right now — I personally can’t think of a greater calling and responsibility.”
