Former Amazon Web Services CEO Adam Selipsky has been named Co-Founder and CEO of Helix Digital Infrastructure, a newly launched company backed by more than $10 billion. As reported by GeekWire, the venture was unveiled by KKR, which partnered with Nvidia, Vistra, and the Kuwait Investment Authority to build infrastructure for artificial intelligence computing.

Selipsky previously spent years building AWS before serving as CEO of Tableau Software, later returning to lead AWS until 2024. Helix plans to develop and operate data centers, covering power generation, fiber connectivity, and land development. The company targets large technology customers facing constraints around electricity availability and data center construction.

Selipsky stated that large users of digital infrastructure have an "urgent need to reduce complexity." He noted on CNBC that complex data center projects are becoming harder to scale with AI, adding that it is a "misnomer" that these projects are easy to manage.

KKR and the Kuwait Investment Authority are providing the initial capital, while Nvidia joins as a founding investor and Vistra serves as the preferred power provider.

The launch coincides with rising public concern over data center construction, including a one year emergency ban on major data centers in Seattle. Selipsky stated that more than 25% of announced data center projects are not delivering.
